Petrozavodskmash Branch of JSC AEM-technology (a member of Atomenergomash, machine engineering division of Rosatom Corporation, and Karelian regional branch of the Russian Engineering Union) has started assembling casings of reactor coolant pump sets (RCPS) for Unit 2 of the Akkuyu NPP being constructed in Turkey.

Petrozavodskmash has already manufactured all four guide vanes for a delivery package of the RCPS casings. The company employees have now proceeded with next manufacturing phase, which is assembling with a spherical part. Relevant weld seams are being performed in the RCPS casings. Further, the items will be sent for machining.

An RCPS casing is an item of safety class I. At a nuclear power plant, a reactor coolant pump set ensures coolant circulation within the primary circuit and operates under a pressure of 160 atm and at a temperature over 300°C. The scope of delivery of RCPS casings per unit comprises four spherical casings with attachments named spacers.

Akkuyu NPP is the world’s first BOO project (build-own-operate project) implemented in the nuclear industry. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four units using Russian VVER Generation III+ reactors of higher security and improved technical and economic features. The power of each NPP unit will amount to 1200 MW. Key manufacturing phases are performed under the supervision of the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK).
