Energomashspetsstal PJSC (EMSS, part of Atomenergomash OJSC, the power plant engineering division of Rosatom State Corporation) has produced a giant 355 ton ingot of medium alloy roll grade steel. That huge ingot will be used to produce a roll for the АRCELOR MITTAL iron and steel works, Galaty, Romania, to be used in a rolling mill.

That is the ninth 355 ton ingot EMSS has ever cast, produced by using all of the most advanced process and production methods developed jointly by process and arc furnace melting professionals.

The ingot has now been delivered for forging. The support roll production is planned to be completed by November 2016. After the machining the product will weigh 160 tons net and be over 10 meters long.

"EMSS has been selected to supply that roll because a large tonnage roll produced from a 290 ton ingot was already supplied to that plant in January 2014. As of today a roll made by EMSS proves to be highly efficient in operation. The repeat order attests to the high quality and customer confidence," noted Alexander Pryadko, head of the steel making process department at EMSS PJSC.

Energomashspetsstal is one of the world's few plants capable of casting and forging a 355 ton ingot, and the ingot is only the second one of such weight even for EMSS PJSC. The highest weighing ingot is currently a 415 ton ingot – the biggest in the ex Soviet space.
